Seeing as it’s been quite some time since our last update, I’m calling this series “Month on the Farm” now. We’ve gotten a lot of snow and for a few weeks earlier this month it was bitterly cold, which means one thing: CABIN TIME! I’ve been spending much of my idle time planning out this year’s gardens and can barely contain my excitement for the new growing season. I’ll be placing our main seed orders soon and am planning to start growing onion flats inside by mid-February.
I took over The Farm’s small flock of chickens and am planning to start offering our eggs at Market this year. In fact, I’m currently looking for egg buyers because we have eggs coming out of our ears! The girls are laying 4-7 eggs a day and it’s far more than we can eat, so I’m going to start actively looking for local buyers.
Bonner County Gardener’s Association (BCGA) is starting their Master Gardener course in early February and I encourage anyone new to gardening or new to the area to take this class. I took it last year and it was well worth the $150. More info can be found on their website: bcgardeners.com.
