Week on the Farm: 5/14/17

Another busy week has passed, much of which was spent working on the irrigation system. This is not what I want to be doing right now!

The House Garden is now completely piped, including an expansion into our new berry patch. Irrigation supplies for our new Market Garden & hoop house arrived this week just as we got the new cistern up & running. Cowboy graciously rigged the valve connection on the tank and we ran a test line along one row to see if the thing would even work. It does! Being a gravity-fed setup I wasn’t sure if we’d get enough pressure without having to use a pump because the math told us it wouldn’t work, but apparently the math was wrong.

Onions, radishes, lettuce, spinach, chard, and beets are coming along. So sloooowly. The drizzly overcast weather continues and we were even treated to a f*cking hailstorm today immediately after I had transplanted some precious cauliflower seedlings. Almost all the rows are still under cover and luckily nothing was damaged. The potato garden is all seeded and ready to grow. Garlic and rhubarb are taking off and our cherry tree is full of buzzing blossoms.
