Week on the Farm: 11/5/17

Snow. Snow? SNOW!

Yeah, I’m aware we live in North Idaho, “Almost Canada”, but getting this much snow this early in the season is rather unusual and put an end to my plan of keeping what’s left of the garden growing through November. It started snowing three days ago and here on The Farm we got around 5 inches overnight, enough that the hoop house was about to collapse, so off the came plastic and all remaining crops (lettuce and herbs) were harvested.

All my covered rows in the House Garden are smothered for now, but I’m hoping to harvest what’s left of our winter radishes, carrots, and beets in the next few days. Temps are predicted to be in the 40s/50s this week so most of this snowfall should melt off.
